Here at Riverlands Dental our team offers many teeth straightening options to help you achieve the results you want. These include:
Traditional braces are a proven technique for achieving results, but it does have limitations. It takes more time than any other approach, and, frankly, it’s not always necessary.

Smilefast works best for people who just have simple cosmetic concerns about their smile, like crowding or gaps, but no major bite problems.

Invisalign is a great approach for people who are turned off by the limitations of brackets and wires, as well as the diet restrictions and hygiene challenges.

Dental veneers work best when you’re looking to correct other problems at the same time.

  • How Can Smilefast Be Faster Braces?

Smilefast uses traditional braces, but uses them smarter — focusing just on the teeth that are most visible. The teeth that move slower — the molars in the back of the mouth — are usually left alone.

  • Will Smilefast Give Me a “Metal Mouth”?

Smilefast uses brackets and wires, but they're almost invisible. The brackets are clear and the wire is white, making them very subtle.

Orthodontics in Richmond – Advantages of Smilefast

Smilefast takes modern developments in orthodontic technology and applies them to traditional braces to make a better, smarter approach to braces. With Smilefast, treatment is:

• Faster
• Discreet
• Affordable

The biggest advantage of Smilefast is that it’s faster than traditional orthodontics. In fact, it can sometimes complete treatment in as little as six months for cases that would take traditional braces a year or more to complete. And you save time not just in months, but in minutes. Smilefast is designed to be efficient during your regular tightening appointments. You’ll be in and out of our clinic faster with Smilefast.

Smilefast benefits from modern materials. It uses transparent brackets that are very hard to notice. And it uses a tooth-coloured wire that is almost invisible against your teeth.

With orthodontics in Richmond, part of what you pay for is our time. Smilefast saves us time, too, so we can provide it to you for less.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • What happens when my braces are put on?

Applying your braces can take between 1 and 2 hours depending on your situation. First your teeth are cleaned and dried and then the braces application process can begin.

Bonding cement or adhesive will be carefully applied to your teeth and the brackets will be carefully placed in position. Once the brackets are in place, the arch wire is threaded into each bracket to connect them. Then, tiny elastics called ligatures are attached to the brackets to hold the arch wire in place.

  • What happens when my braces are removed?

Orthodontic pliers are used to gently squeeze the bases of the brackets. This breaks and releases the bonding adhesive so that the brackets can be removed. Once all the brackets have been removed, the bonding cement is scraped away with a special dental tool that also polishes the tooth enamel. An impression is then taken for your retainer to be made.

  • Am I too old for braces?

It’s never too late to have braces. Whether you’re 8 or 80 it’s the same procedure to move your teeth.

  • How much do braces cost?

As a rough guide you can expect to pay up to $8000 for traditional metal braces. Ceramic braces range from $5000 to $8500 and lingual braces start from around $7500 for one arch and $12500 for full treatment.

  • How often do I need to come in for an appointment?

It depends on the type of treatment you’re having but typically you’ll be looking at visiting your dentist every 4 to 8 weeks throughout the duration of your treatment.

  • How often should I brush my teeth while wearing braces?

When you’re wearing braces it’s important to brush your teeth twice a day for at least 2 minutes as you would without a brace. Wherever possible, brush your teeth after a meal to remove loose food that has got under your brackets and wires. If this isn’t an option, try drinking a glass of water to dislodge any loose particles of food. A floss threader also makes it easier to brush in between your teeth with braces attached.

  • Can you get braces on top of veneers?

Yes it is possible to have braces if you have veneers on your teeth. That said, many dentists prefer not to place a fixed brace on top of veneers. Usually a removable aligner is preferable.

That said, Invisalign as a whole, doesn’t deliver such precise results. If a fixed brace is the best option for your situation, then there are ways to attach it to a veneer or veneers.

  • How can I get braces off faster?

If you’re getting impatient with wearing braces, there are a few tips you can follow to reduce your treatment time.

Follow the instructions given by your dentist

    • Don’t skip appointments
    • Maintain good oral hygiene
    • Steer clear of sticky and crunchy foods which can damage or break your braces
